Our Engagement Party

I am so sad that the hype to our Engagement party is all over! I am also glad it’s over at the same time as I was non-stop stressing and busy with organising. Next step is our wedding, ah!

We had our Engagement party on Saturday 30th March 2019 at a golf club in our town. We celebrated with 65 friends and family. On the Friday beforehand, I got my hair done. Done, as in styled, coloured and trimmed. Though I was at the hairdressers for 4 hours! That’s why I hate committing to getting my hair done as it takes so damn long. But see the before and after here:

I hadn’t had my hair done since May 2018 so I really wanted to get a re-fresh for before our night. That Friday was a LONG day as I worked 8am-4pm, then spent the rest of the night at the hairdressers and didn’t get home until 8:30-9pm.

Then came the day of our party! Because we were having it at a venue, and not at our home, we really didn’t have to do too much! They sorted the food, drinks, set-up, decorations and security. All we had to do was to supply some chips, chocolates and lollies. Instead of having a cake, I wanted cupcakes. As they look cute and they’re much easier for people to eat. I also think they look more appetising. We had our cupcakes made by a small baking business. I thought it would be nice to support a small business, and I’m glad I made this decision as they turned out fabulous and everyone commented saying how much they loved them and how delicious they were! They were vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing and a a heart on top, half blue and half purple (our favourite colours)

We also purchased a guest book where people could write things to us, and we also brought some photos to display on the main table at the venue.

The staff did a wonderful job of setting up and decorating! I was so happy with the final look. They did some pretty table decorations, and also supplied us with a chalkboard to write our welcome on.

The absolute biggest hit of the night was definitely the photo booth we hired! It was a photo booth that came with props and there was also an attendant that set it all up and helped throughout the night, she was absolutely lovely. We also got a USB of all the pics which was great as I could easily upload them all to Facebook for everyone to enjoy.

We only went to the venue once during the day to drop things off, then we weren’t there again until just before the party started and people would be arriving. Then came the time for the party to start!

Josh was wearing black suit pants with a white, button-up shirt, and I was wearing a light pink/orange/peach coloured dress which was short at the front and long at the back.

The night ran pretty smoothly which was great, and the tunes were flowing nicely. I made a playlist on Spotify specifically for the night, I always have a lot of fun creating playlists!

We did some dancing, some eating, some chatting and some drinking (water for me – no I’m not pregnant). I decided a week before the night that I was going to do a speech, dedicated to Josh. He had no idea until I actually announced it when I got given a microphone. I am not one for speeches, and I have never done a proper one before. But I wanted to do it for him. And happily, it was a success. He loved it, and everyone else loved it and thought it was really well done. I was glad when it was over though.

Our party started at 7pm, and was set to finish at 12am, but most people started leaving at 11pm, and it was sort of a domino effect from there. We had some friends down – a couple from a 2 hour drive away, and another couple from a 4 hour drive away. It was amazing that they made it and we appreciated it so much that they could celebrate this with us.

I was a bit sad when the party was over. But we got given some amazing gifts, and I was on such a high for about a week after the party. It was such a good night, and I couldn’t imagine celebrating it with anyone else.

  1. Such a lovely post, sounds like you had an amazing time! I loooooove your hair, I can definitely relate to your pain of sitting at the hairdressers for so long, I swear I always think that surely they won’t have that much to do on my hair but then I end up being there for 6 hours. Great post, so cute!! xx
