Hey everyone, and welcome to a travel post! It’s hard for us to get away as we both work full-time and have animals. The long weekend was coming up (Melbourne Cup) so I suggested we go on a little trip with the puppies, and stay in a pet-friendly Air BnB! I found a nice looking one online in Bendigo, where I’ve never actually been before. Josh’s Mum looked after our bird for the weekend, then on Saturday 2nd November, we headed off.
The dogs aren’t great in the car, and this was their first long-haul trip, a total of 2.5 hours. Let’s just say we went through several towels on the way there…
On the Saturday, it was pouring down with rain the entire day.. It wasn’t cold, just very rainy. As soon as we got to the house we unpacked and headed to the shops to get snacks. We then walked over to the pub which was right across the road from the place. So handy! The house was nice – it had a balcony over-looking some of Bendigo, and also a large spa-bath!
If you didn’t know, Bendigo is about an hour and 45 minutes from Melbourne CBD, located South West. It is a big town, basically a city in the country.
Once we finished at that pub, we ended walking to another and having more drinks with some dinner. We then walked back home and watched some Netflix.
The next day (Sunday), it finally wasn’t raining!! So we got to get out a bit more. The first thing we did was head to the Beechworth Bakery (there is a few of these around Victoria – they are famous and only found in the country towns of Beechworth (obviously), Bendigo, Echuca, Albury, Ballarat, Healesville, Yakandandah and Bright. They sell cakes, pastries, coffee and much more. We headed here for coffees/hot chocolates first.
We then had a walk around one of the lakes, then we found a place to play some minigolf which was fun!
Then we stopped for some lunch, and headed to the shops. Then we headed to a park and ate ice cream. One thing that was super obvious about Bendigo was that barely anything is open on a Sunday! And if it is, it closes at 4pm or earlier, which is crazy.
We then ended the day heading to another pub, where I had the best burger I’ve had in a long time, and also played about 4 games of pool while watching Toy Story!
The day after this was basically just a travel day. I can happily say the dogs were a lot better in the car on the way back, and basically slept the whole time which was nice to see.
All-in-all, it was a fun trip and it was great to get away for a bit and from our normal routine.
I hope you enjoyed this post along with the pictures! What’s the next little/big holiday you have planned!? Let me know in the comments!

It’s so nice when you can get away, even if its just for a couple days! I haven’t been to Bendigo in a really long time but I remember the city centre being a lot bigger, and having more shops than I thought!

Yeah! 😊 I had only driven through there before this and never realised how much of a big town it is! Lots of shops and gardens – but don’t go shopping on a Sunday as barely anything is open 😂
