Book Review – Next Door

I have read my way through yet another book, which means it is time for a review! I downloaded this on onto iBooks a while ago and have finally got around to reading it. I believe I downloaded it when it was free.

Today’s book is..

Next Door by Blake Pierce

41801965. sy475

“FBI Evidence Response Team intern Chloe Fine, 27, finds herself forced to confront her own dark past when her troubled twin sister needs her help—and when a body turns up dead in her small, suburban town.

Chloe feels life is finally perfect as she moves back into her home town, and into a new house with her fiancé. Her career with the FBI looks promising, and her wedding is on the horizon.

But, she learns, all is not as it seems in suburbia. Chloe begins to see the underside—the gossip, the secrets, the lies—and she finds herself haunted by her own demons: her mother’s mysterious death when she was 10, and her father’s imprisonment.

And when a fresh body is found, Chloe soon realizes that her past, and this small town, might hold the key to solving both.

An emotionally wrought psychological suspense with layered characters, small-town ambiance and heart-pounding suspense, NEXT DOOR is book #1 in a riveting new series that will leave you turning pages late into the night.”

Despite all the not-so-good reviews on Goodreads, I really enjoyed this book! I couldn’t wait to relax before bed and get tucked into this novel. It was a good amount of pages and it was easy to follow.

Chloe and Danielle are twins, but they are both very different. The death of their mother made Danielle quiet and wanting to keep to herself, and it made Chloe want to become a detective. Chloe had bought a house with her fiance and had her wedding coming up, Danielle lived in a one-bedroom flat by herself and worked as a bartender. Both very different characters, this was portrayed well in the book. The girls had never been that close, but something happens to make them re-evaluate their relationship.

Chloe came across as a very strong female character, which I liked. Of course she had her moments like anyone. But I think she dealt with all events quite well.

I found this book to be quite the page turner. I was shocked and surprised at some things that happened, which was great as it kept me wanting to turn pages. I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did! This was a great read. I am looking forward to reading another book by this author.

I would recommend this one to anyone that enjoys reading crime.

The genres of this on are mystery and thriller.

I rate this one a 9/10!

Thanks for reading my review!
