Book Review – The Secrets We Keep

Hi everyone!! Welcome to another book review. I read this one on iBooks, I was actually awaiting some physical books in the post, but I decided I would read this one in the mean time. It was actually a really long one for me (600+ pages).

The Secrets We Keep by Kate Hewitt

“When Tessa arrives at the little house by the lake with her two children, it is an escape. The rental house may be a bit small—but it’s theirs for the summer. A place to hide…

However, their isolation is disrupted by the family from the big house next door. Three children and their glamorous mother Rebecca—who seems determined to invite Tessa into their lives.

Rebecca, however, is harbouring a dark secret. And when it becomes too much for her to bear, Tessa seems to be the only person she can turn to.

But as powerful bonds form between the two families, choices will be made that can never be undone. And as the summer comes to an end, nothing can keep everyone safe. And one family will pay the ultimate price…”

**contains slight spoilers**

Who knew that a book I’d be reading to sort of ‘pass the time’, would turn out to be so god damn GOOD!! This is one of the best books I have read in a while!

I found myself getting really invested in this book. You could say it was a bit slow, but I didn’t really experience that. I just hung around to see what would happen next. I honestly got so INVESTED!!

Tessa was not expecting to meet a friend on her little summer vacation. Tessa was a mum of two, Katherine & Ben. Next door, she met Rebecca, mum of 3, Charlotte, Zoe & Max. To Tessa, Rebecca had the perfect life. At one point, Tessa is basically living Rebecca’s life.

This book has the BIGGEST twist & shock. Something I was not expecting AT ALL!! Even when something big happens you always think ‘oh yeah, they’ll be fine, they’ll get through it.’, but I was honestly SHOCKED when one of the characters dies! It was just so unexpected.

Also, I’d just like to add that Zoe was a horrible child, she was such an irritating character!

I can’t say too much out without giving anything away, but if you like a bit of a shock/thriller, then you NEED to give this one a shot!!

I rate this one a 9.5/10!! My highest rating in some time!

Just give this one a shot, it might be a bit slow at first, but you won’t be disappointed. I almost cried!

Thanks for reading another one of my reviews!
