Hi all, thanks for joining me in another book review! I feel like I’ve been charging through books lately… but anyway, let’s get into the review! The book I will be reviewing today is..
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
“Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.
2) A person’s undoing
3) Joshua Templeman
Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She’s charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.
Trapped in a shared office together 40 (OK, 50 or 60) hours a week, they’ve become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship. There’s the Staring Game. The Mirror Game. The HR Game. Lucy can’t let Joshua beat her at anything—especially when a huge new promotion goes up for the taking.
If Lucy wins this game, she’ll be Joshua’s boss. If she loses, she’ll resign. So why is she suddenly having steamy dreams about Joshua, and dressing for work like she’s got a hot date? After a perfectly innocent elevator ride ends with an earth-shattering kiss, Lucy starts to wonder whether she’s got Joshua Templeman all wrong.
Maybe Lucy Hutton doesn’t hate Joshua Templeman. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.“
***trigger warning – vomit***
Not going to lie, I’m really torn with this one. I don’t know whether I liked it or not. I’m very on the fence. I have to say though, this was the authors first book published, and it was very good in that regard.
There wasn’t a real climatic part in it. It was just kind of flat through the whole thing. There were a few tiny peaks but that was it. I really, really didn’t think it needed the part with Lucy getting a bug and vomiting. I have a bit of a fear with that and it really wasn’t very nice to read. I think that was the part that put me off the book. It made me quite anxious. I really don’t want that in a book, that’s for sure. And it seemed to go on forever!
All in all, I was expecting a lot more excitement from the book. I was thinking it would be like ‘The Flat Share’, that was fantastic and I would recommend that one. You can view that review here.
The genres of this one are romance, contemporary, adult & fiction.

This one was a miss for me sadly. I give it a 4/10.
