Book Review – The Silent Patient

Hello there and welcome back to another book review! Honestly, I was was very aprehensive about reading this one. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. I saw it at the shops basically everywhere I went. Then one day I finally gave in and got in from Booktopia as it was on sale. Today’s book is..

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

“Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him…”

This was a great read. I got through it really fast I feel! There was always events happening to keep you reading. I wasn’t a fan of the ending. I feel like there were quite a few unanswered questions.

BUT the twist in the book I was not expecting at all. I can’t really say much as it will give away spoilers, but it is refreshing to not know or guess what the twist is.

I find it crazy that one of the main characters, Alicia does not speak a word since the death of her husband. I wonder if she ever spoke while no one was around.

There’s not too much I can say about this one sorry without giving too much away! I’d definitely recommend this one to a mystery/thriller lover. Not my favourite book but thoroughly enjoyed it.

The main genres of this one are mystery, thriller, fiction, suspense and crime.

About the Author
Alex Michaelides was born in Cyprus and studied English Literature at Cambridge University and got an MA in screenwriting at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He has written a movie, and co-written another. The Silent Patient is his first novel.

I rate this one an 8/10!

Thanks for taking the time to read my review 😊
